Cry me an iRiver

In this video I anxiously un-box my iRiver. Then, at the end of the video, I tell you what is wrong with the iRiver. If you’re interested, the model that I bought is an iRiver iFP-895.

Oh no! This is heartbreaking to watch. The video starts with you giddy with glee and a twinkle in your eye and ends with you on the verge of tears.
My hunch is that it is a fixable problem — probably a firmware patch will be needed — or you have to do something in the options menu.
This has to be the greatest iRiver tragedy of all time.
BTW — your volume settings deal only with listening to MP3’s — it has nothing to do with recording them. Might as well record with it and download the audio to your computer while you wait for support. . .

“If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all…”
Words to live by from an old song on Hee Haw. So, WTF? I’ve been so impressed by the sound quality, and all the other hype, that other iRiver users have given it. Madge used to use one, as did Wanda, John Ong, and a host of others. I never heard anyone mention the problem you’re having with your new little guy. Hopefully you’re right though — its just a firmware problem or something. I’ve never had to send anything back, but I hear it’s a royal pain in the ass.
Whatever the problem is, it sucks. I hope you hear something useful today. I want to hear me some “Andy on the Road” audio!

Christiaan - Thanks for the comment. I don’t know why, in a sick way, I thought the video was good. I actually watched part of it before I published it, lol. I really hope you’re right that it is a fixable problem. I really want to keep it! I like it! But, I can’t keep it with it not working properly. I just really dread having to send it back. I’ll try to make a recording with it today. Thanks for your moral support.
Tim - I love the quote, seems like I remember that from somewhere. I could swear it was on an episode of Star Trek! I emailed John Ong the question I sent to iRiver support, he said that it sounded like a hardware problem. I have only had to send one thing back, some camera equipment I bought last year and it WAS a royal pain in the padded ass to send back! They told me to send it back and THEN they told me AFTER I had sent it back that I needed a re-stocking number to attach to the package. Bastards. I’m going to give it a few more hours, although, the Virgo in me is horrible at waiting. It is 8:23 AM on the west coast, 11:23 AM here…just trying to be patient. Patience is horrible for a Virgo. Thanks for the comment.

Andy, You were so exited. I got giddy watching you open your new toy. Then I heard your audio after this and that sucks that your iRiver isn’t working
Hope you get a replacement soon. It is still covered under the 90 day warranty. Anyway, I saw that you have a new mp4 post. I’ll have to check it out. Hope you had a Happy New Year!

Hey VJ! I am trying to get a replacement, having difficulties getting it sent back to iRiver though. I guess they don’t think it is really mine or something. It is in fact still in the 90 day warranty, thank goodness. Yup! I have a few more MP4’s that I need to publish. I had a great New Year although it was here at home, in front of the computer, lol.
